Exposition Christian Boltanski : "6 Septembres"
November 1–December 20, 2012
Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard University
24 Quincy Street, Cambridge
Christian Boltanski, among the most prominent and celebrated artists of our time, gathered visual archives of events occurring on each of his birthdays, September 6, 1944 to 2004. This flow of images is sped up two thousand times, and the events of one life unfold in front of the viewer, retracing historical moments. This three-channel video installation also allows the viewer to select at random an image that belongs to his/her own past, and therefore fully engage and participate in this meditation on memory, the implacable passing of time, and death.
