Teaching Assistants Convene at La Résidence de la France

The Consul General of France Fabien Fieschi received the former French Teaching Assistants on Friday, June 14th at the Résidence de France. The reception was an opportunity for these former teachers who have worked in France for at least seven months teaching English to French students to connect with each other as well as allow the Consulate to stay in touch with these Francophiles, as well as collect their feedback to improve the program as much as possible. This was the first meeting of the alumni of this program in the Boston area.

The reception was well attended and a happy encounter for all the returning Teaching Assistants, who were among the 1,400 American citizens who taught across all regions of metropolitan France and in overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and La Réunion. This is a program run by the French Embassy and Consulates meant to enrich both the teachers' cultural experience and the students' English.

As the assistants have been back for at least a month, getting their perspective will inform the next year's administration how to better run the program. Because they have already shown interest in France, the Consulate in introducing them to each other and further cementing its relationship with them hopes to ensure a future francophile base.

Each year from October to April, the teaching assistants who are US citizens of residents between 20 and 30 years old with some French proficiency are spread throughout France. The age range of the students is from 8-18 years old and each assistant teaches a total of 12 hours of English per week in up to 3 schools.

12 entreprises françaises sélectionnées pour participer à l'édition 2013 du programme NETVA

NETVA (NEw Technology Venture Accelerator) est un programme unique de préparation et d'exposition aux marchés américains des hautes technologies pour des jeunes entreprises innovantes françaises. NETVA a pour objectif de répondre au besoin d'internationalisation des jeunes pousses technologiques françaises.

A la suite d'un concours national, 67 jeunes entreprises innovantes se sont portées candidates en 2013. Deux étapes de sélection ont été nécessaires pour permettre de déterminer les lauréats de cette nouvelle édition, la première se déroulant à Paris, la seconde dans l'un des trois pôles NETVA que sont Boston, San Francisco et Washington. Ces pôles de la Mission pour la Science et la Technologie de l'Ambassade de France aux Etats-Unis assureront le suivi et l'accompagnement de leurs lauréats respectifs. Boston et San Francisco accueilleront chacun cinq entreprises et deux lauréats ont été retenus pour Washington, portant à 12 le nombre total de lauréats NETVA en 2013.

Ce dernier pôle, Washington, constitue une nouvelle extension du programme, à titre expérimental pour cette 4ème édition. Cette nouveauté va ainsi permettre d'offrir la possibilité à quelques lauréats de bénéficier de l'écosystème de Washington, spécialisé dans les marchés publics, les Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication (T.I.C.), et la sécurité informatique.

Les lauréats sélectionnés bénéficieront d'un cycle de préparation et d'exposition aux réalités des marchés américains des hautes technologies. Une première phase de formation et de préparation personnalisées se déroulera les 2 et 3 juillet à Paris dans les locaux de Microsoft France, partenaire du programme. Chaque lauréat sera ensuite accompagné par un ou plusieurs mentors américains pour préparer sa venue sur le territoire américain, en septembre ou octobre en fonction des pôles. Durant leur semaine d'immersion, les lauréats seront mis en relation avec des professionnels américains dans leur domaine d'activité et bénéficieront d'une nouvelle série d'ateliers de formation. Les objectifs pour les lauréats sont la création de partenariats académiques et technologiques durables et à haute valeur ajoutée, l'acquisition d'une expertise sur le marché américain de l'innovation ainsi qu'une analyse des opportunités de développement aux Etats-Unis.

Les douze lauréats 2013 du programme sont de jeunes entreprises françaises très prometteuses, dans des domaines technologiques variés.

NETVA s'appuie sur le soutien de partenaires importants, tels que le réseau français de l'innovation RETIS, et Microsoft BizSpark. Le programme implique au total 15 partenaires en France et aux Etats-Unis.

Depuis son lancement, NETVA bénéficie du support de trois mécènes : le cabinet Marie Landel & Associates, l'entreprise Edenred USA et le cabinet d'avocats Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

NETVA Seminar on July 1 in Paris

In Paris? Interested in entrepreneurship and the United States? We invite you to attend a seminar that kicks off this year's NETVA program. The New Technology Venture Accelerator, NETVA, is having its annual seminar on July 1st in Paris at Microsoft in Paris, France, a fitting location for technology information seminar.

NETVA is a program meant to help French entrepreneurs launch into the American market with a support system in place. There is training, immersion and mentoring to help these entrepreneurs solidify contact with the American consumer. A couple weeks ago in Boston, the jury met to chose the ten new members of NETVA, all new entrepreneurs with a lot of potential in the American market place. Among the talented and well prepared candidates ten were chosen. Started a few years ago, NETVA has already had enormous success in connecting French entrepreneurs with American markets in a variety of industries, focused primarily on Silicon Valley and Boston but with plans of potentially expanding the program.

This seminar launches the first step in the year long membership opportunity and is centered on the idea of launching a business model in the United States. It is a day full of speakers and is broken into two parts: understanding the American market and creating a toolbox for the next steps in the program. After this seminar, the entrepreneurs will move on to an immersion week and then prolonged mentoring.

Through the logical breakdown of the day between introducing the American market and then exploring ways to better advance the entrepreneur's company, NETVA's program attempts to clearly outline how and where the entrepreneurs can succeed.

Futur-en-Seine Paris: a festival of digital innovations

Paris is currently hosting the 4th edition of a unique international festival showcasing the latest digital technologies and services: Futur-en-Seine.

From 13 to 23 June, the French capital will become a hub for designers, manufacturers, start-ups and experts from around the world in order to share information on digital innovations. Of the 125 expected exhibitors, a dozen will come from abroad, including Israel, Finland, Sweden, Palestine, Russia and Italy.

"It is a shop window for digital innovation and an extremely inclusive venue for conducting meetings and business," says Stéphane Distinguin, President of Cap Digital, a French business cluster for digital content and services. It was this business cluster which was at the roots of Futur-en-Seine in 2009. It brings together over 620 companies, 20 of which are major manufacturing groups, linked with almost 50 public research or higher education institutions. Its aim is to become a global benchmark in the digital sector, both from a manufacturing and strategic perspective.

This edition, which will focus on business, will begin with four days at the Village des innovations at Centquatre cultural centre in Paris. At this creative space, there will be displays of robots and prototypes as well as workshops on designing futuristic projects. In particular, the TerraDynamica project can be seen, the result of a programme developed by Cap Digital and ADvancity, a business cluster focusing on urban issues. This project aims to create a model for the activity of the city, its residents, its vehicles and its traffic and then to exploit, organize and distribute this data.

According to the Ministry of Industry, the digital market in France in 2011 was worth almost €72 billion, or 3.7% of GDP, and should reach 5.5% of GDP by 2015. Digital technology is entering all fields of activity, including healthcare, which is one of the French government's key priorities for development, along with education, tourism, the media and telecommunications. Political leaders are well aware of the economic and societal issues, and thus recommend supporting training in this area.

864,000 new tech jobs in Europe by 2015

While following government recommendations and addressing the concerns of European leaders, Cap Digital has set ambitious targets in the area of employment. At the start of the year, the European Union called on public and private economic development actors from the European area to work towards the creation of 864,000 jobs in the field of new technologies by 2015. It is with this in mind that the Centquatre Village des innovations intends to introduce young people to digital technologies and applications.

In total, nearly 100 events are planned for the Paris region, with all themes linked to research and development, company growth and the promotion of export markets on the agenda.

In 2012, Futur-en-Seine attracted 10,000 visitors to the Centquatre and over 90,000 during the festival as a whole. The organizers hope to capitalize on the event's reputation and do even better this year.

American audiences love le French Touch

Daft Punk, David Guetta, Martin Solveig, Phoenix and so on – you know their catchy beats and their chart topping tunes but did you know they are all French?!

As Daft Punk wildly popular new album continues to capture audiences with its retro-sounding electronic dance music, French Touch Music movement is expanding its already strong connection with American audiences. David Guetta in fact had the "Longest Charting Dance Song with Michael Jackson" with his track, Titanium which featured Sia (http://goo.gl/vjCKh). Daft Punk hit the No 1 spot on the US Billboard for the first time with this latest album, Random Access Memories and has sold 339,000 copies in the first week which does not account for the number of people streaming it on Spotify, Youtube, etc. (They also broke multiple Spotify records). Many songs in this movement are collaborations with American artists and singers, which is a further example of a Franco-American effort. Daft Punk has also tapped into using the English language on their tracks, and “Get Lucky” is a collaboration with Pharrell Williams, a singer and producer of the ‘90s and Nile Rodgers, producer of the ‘70s. The French Consulate of Boston would like to join the French Embassy and other consulates in highlighting this musical connection between French artists, American artists, and audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and globally. The IHEE Visits Boston

What is the IHEE?
The Institute of Higher Learning in Business is a training program designed for future leaders whether it be in of public or private enterprises, in the political world, or in organizations (like unions or other professional sectors).
The IHEE brings together a different set of professionals each year. In attendance are about 40 professionals from various sectors such as officials from various government ministries (Economy and Finance, Labor, General Financial Inspection etc); journalists from prominent national and regional medias, newspapers as well as online and audiovisiual; and elected members of local or national levels from various political parties.

The trip to Boston
The program of the IHEE constitutes about 20 days spread through out in the year and constitute seminars or trips meant to enrich the studies of its members. The conferences and trips are meant to explore the relationship of enterprises with the phenomenon of globalization.

During their visit to Boston the members of the 2013 IHEE group met the General Consul of France. He presented them the role and action of the Consulate in the Boston region, specifically its role in the economic sector.

Over the course of their stay, the members of the IHEE met various high ranking French government officials who presented to them the macroeconomic context of the United States as well as the environment for innovation. They also visited various enterprises in the biotech business sector, both leaders in the field like Genzyme and Dassault Systems and start-up companies. Tours of Harvard and MIT complimented these meetings.

Mercredi 29 mai 2013, le Consul Général de France, Fabien Fieschi, a reçu à la Résidence de France les membres de l'Institut des Hautes Etudes de l'Entreprise (IHEE) en voyage d'étude à Boston.

Qu'est-ce que l'IHEE ?

L'Institut des hautes études de l'entreprise est un cycle de formation destiné aux futurs dirigeants de l'administration, des entreprises privées et publiques, du monde politique, des médias, des organisations professionnelles et syndicales.

L'IHEE réunit chaque année une quarantaine de hauts potentiels âgés de 30 à 45 ans, et issus de différents milieux professionnels : cadres de grandes entreprises ; hauts fonctionnaires du Ministère de l'économie et des finances, du Ministère du travail, de l'Inspection générale des finances, de la Cour des comptes, etc. ; syndicalistes ; journalistes des grands médias nationaux et régionaux, de la presse écrite, en ligne et audiovisuelle ; élus locaux ou nationaux rattachés aux principaux partis politiques.

Le voyage d'étude à Boston

Le cursus de l'IHEE se déroule sur une vingtaine de jours répartis tout au long de l'année et se décline sous forme de séminaires ou de voyages d'études. Ces cycles de conférences ou de visites ont pour objectifs de permettre aux participants de mieux appréhender l'entreprise dans la mondialisation.

C'est à l'occasion d'un voyage d'étude à Boston que les membres de la promotion 2013 de l'IHEE ont rencontré le Consul Général de France. Qui leur a présenté le rôle et l'action du Consulat dans la région de Boston, et plus particulièrement en matière économique.

Au cours de leur visite, les membres de l'IHEE ont rencontré plusieurs hauts fonctionnaires français qui leur ont présenté le contexte macroéconomique américain et l'écosystème de l'innovation. Ils ont également visité des entreprises spécialisées dans la Biotechnologie ou leader sur le marché de l'innovation (Genzyme, Dassault Systèmes) et des start-ups. Ils ont également découvert les campus de Harvard et du MIT.
