Le 17 et le 18 mai 2012, le Consulat Général de France à Boston et la Société Lafayette du Massachusetts vous invitent à participer à la Journée Lafayette.

Cette célébration traditionnelle, initiée en 1935, rend hommage au Marquis de Lafayette qui a combattu aux côtés de George Washington pour l'indépendance des Etats-Unis. Il est l'un des piliers fondateurs de la longue amitié franco-américaine que cette journée mettra à l'honneur.

- Les célébrations de la Journée Lafayette débuteront avec une réception le 17 mai 2012 de 17h30 à 19h au Ritz-Carlton Hotel (Boston Common 10 Avery Street). Le prix de la réception est de $37/personne. Pour réserver, cliquez ici

- Les célébrations continueront le 18 mai 2012 à 10h à la State House de Boston (Gardner auditorium). L'hymne national français sera interprété par la chorale du Lycée International de Boston et une proclamation de la Journée Lafayette au Massachusetts sera lue en français et en anglais.

Cette année, la commémoration aura un accent spécial avec un hommage rendu à 6 vétérans américains qui ont participé à la Libération de la France pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale. En reconnaissance de leur sacrifice pour notre patrie, le Consul Général, M. Christophe Guilhou, leur remettra les insignes de la Légion d'Honneur.

May 17th and 18th : Massachusetts Lafayette Day

On May 17 and 18, 2012, the Lafayette Society and the Consulate General of France in Boston will organize the annual Massachusetts Lafayette Day. This traditional celebration, which dates back to 1935, pays special tribute to General Lafayette, who fought alongside George Washington for the freedom and Independence of the United States. It represents a pillar of the longstanding French-American friendship, which we will celebrate those two days.

The Lafayette celebrations will start with a Reception on Thursday 17th, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel (Boston Common 10 Avery Street). Please notice that the Reception will cost $37 per person (ticketed event, reservations are essential).

Celebration continues the 18th, on La Fayette Day, at 10:00am (State House, Gardner auditorium) with the National Anthems performed by the International School of Boston Chorus. After that, there will be a reading of the Massachusetts Lafayette Day in French and in English.

At the end, the Consul General of France, Mr. Christophe Guilhou, will award 6 World War II American Veterans with the "Legion of Honor" Medal.

Lafayette Day :

Massachusetts, and more specifically Boston, played an important role in the relationship that Lafayette had with the United States. It was from Boston, on January 11th, 1779, on board the USS Alliance, that Lafayette left to go back to France after his first US trip, to persuade Louis XVI to increase his support in the American struggle for independence. It was in Boston, on the Hermione frigate, that Lafayette arrived in May of 1780 for his second American stay, during which he would join Washington and would participate, eighteen months later, in the Battle of Yorktown, which would lead to the end of British rule.

And it was again in Boston that, in 1824, back in America for the last time, he received a triumphant welcome, laid the first stone of the Bunker Hill Monument, and presided over a grand ball with six thousand guests.

A few months before the departure of the Head of 4 major Consulates, you are invited to join a discussion with Mr. Christophe Guilhou, Consul General of France, Mr. Pascal Marmier, Consul of Switzerland, Director swissnex Boston, Dr. Phil Budden, Consul General of Great Britain and Mr. Friedrich Löh, Consul General of Germany.

While debriefing about their achievements in New England, the four diplomats will share their vision of the Boston area for the coming years, with a particular focus on the innovation and academic scene. They will also comment on the perception of the US and the Boston area in Europe.

The study of economics is sophisticated - dealing with the economy, precise research and widely taught throughout the world. "Le Café Français" is a networking event for teachers and professors that offers them a chance to meet each other and discuss teaching practices.

After a 30-minute lecture on a subject relevant to France and a Q&A session with the speaker, teachers are invited to socialize for an hour over French wine and hors d'oeuvres.

This time, we will have the opportunity to listen to Olivier Saint-Vincent, Philosophy Professor at the International School of Boston, who will explore the condition of women in 17th century France through two literary works: Molière's masterpiece L'Ecole des Femmes and an anonymous erotic novel, L'Ecole des Filles.
