Somerville startup, C16 Biosciences, laureate of the 2018 YEI edition
Discover C16 Biosciences, our local YEI Start in France program laureate!
The French Office for Science and Technology in Boston is glad to announce that a Somerville startup was selected to participate in the 2018 edition of the Young Enterprise Initiative program- Start in France (YEi Start in France).
The local laureate is C16 Biosciences which uses microbiology to produce sustainable alternatives to palm oil by brewing them like beer
C16 Biosciences is pioneering a new age of oils and other industrial ingredients. It harnesses the power of synthetic biology, using microbes to create a sustainable alternative to palm oil. It is building a synthetic biology platform with the power to custom-build bio-based oils. The first product is a sustainable alternative to palm oil - the most commonly used vegetable oils, yet one of the largest drivers of deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions.
YEi - Start in France is an accelerator program meant for young science-based companies interested in growing their business in France and in Europe. It provides an immersion week in France that includes training sessions about the French innovation ecosystems and how to open a business in France, networking events and most importantly one-on-one customized meetings with potential partners in the Paris region as well as in a selected region of France that best fits the needs of the awardees.
C16 Biosciences, with 9 other US laureates, will join the 2018 YEi cohort of 28 foreign startups, coming from 4 other countries (Finland, South Korea, Italy, Taiwan).
They will gather in Paris on November 5th, 2018 for the YEi immersion week.
Congratulations to C16 Biosciences and Welcome to France!
